Larkin

Our sweet pea Larkin is in a class by herself. She just turned six months old and thinks she’s already the biggest girl. She has found her voice and squeals and screams in happiness most of the day; she is such a happy baby. She loves to be on the floor and rolls all over and explores everything. For weeks now she recognized her bottle and grabs for it and practically shoves it in her little mouth. And miracles really do happen (not like we didn’t already know) she recently slept all the way through the night. She has been doing six-hour stretches, which mom and dad certainly appreciate.

Calle & Christian

The twins are graduating, so to speak, from preschool in a couple of weeks. They are both going back next year, Calle to the School for the Deaf and Blind, and Christian to Mother Goose Time preschool our friend teaches. They each are learning so much and they are as excited as Me.

Calle has made great “strides” with her walking. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer until she feels she can take more “steps” and cruise around all by herself.

She recently had a field trip to Wheeler Farm with the preschool classes from school. Calle loved the animals and the fresh air. She petted a bunny, a horse, a sheep and a three-week old calf. Also, everyone took a hayride around the farm pulled by a tractor.

Calle had an appointment with her ophthalmologist the week before last. Unfortunately, Calle’s “good” eye (left) has gotten worse and they are not sure what vision she even has in her right eye; alternative learning methods including Braille were recommended. This will not stop Calle from doing or going, as not very many things have; she’s very persistent.

Christian has the best time at preschool, he loves his teacher and learning and playing with all the kids. They have been talking about plants and growing gardens of vegetables and flowers. He has grown grass very tall in a paper cup he colored himself. Now when we’re in the back yard we talk about what he learned in his class watching Mommy’s flowers and Daddy’s tomatoes grow big.

Christian is into collecting money now. Anything larger than a dime or penny is “big” money and he puts it in his Curious George monkey bank.

My goal for the twins this summer is to help Christian potty train himself and help Calle progress with eating. Wish me luck!

Graduation!

Matt graduated from Utah State the first weekend in May, it was a wonderful day. He has been filling his schoolwork time with planting a garden and miscellaneous jobs around the house. Matt is looking forward to getting another education in... finishing basements. We are planning to finish our basement and do most of the work ourselves; we just took some rough measurements for framing and planned the design.

Merry Christmas

Dear Family and Friends,

‘Twas the month before the New Year, when all through our house
Not a person was stress-free, not even a mouse
The Christmas cards were sent in the mail with care
In hopes that our family wouldn’t say, “this is rare”
The children are growing almost out of their beds
While visions of new toys dance in their heads
And mom and dad trying hard to fill every gap
We daydream of having a long winter’s nap

When out of thin air there arose such clatter
We rolled our eyes and wondered what was the matter
Away with our money, would it fly like a flash?
Tore open an envelope, the IRS wanted more cash

We came back from California to find new fallen snow
Sighed with dismay at the cold we now know
When, what to our glazed over eyes did appear
It was Christmas again, presents, Santa and all his reindeer
So little time to cook, shop and be quick
We knew in a flash there was no time to be sick
More rapid than ever the month went as it came
Good thing we already picked out our family gift name

Now Grandmas and Grandpas and cousins alike
Come Aunts, Uncles, and every little tyke
To worship our Christ to worship our Lord
Give gifts of the heart and buy only what you can afford
As we think of others and time that’s gone by
And when we face our trials let’s look to the sky

So out of our minds we’ll reminisce for a few
With a year full of memories and our kids just two
There were many a smile and sometimes a new tooth
What fun we’ve had just under our little roof

As we started 2005 with surgery, RSV and sickness all around
We moved onto Easter, blessings abound
Summer brought us first haircuts, first steps and more words
New car seats, family reunions and schedules absurd
Birthday party fun with homemade Oreos fudgie dark
Visiting Wheeler farm animals, even picnics at the park
Their eyes widened at many pumpkins so scary
Then some turkey with cousins and lots of cranberry
Helping mom wrap and unwrap with paper and bow
We can’t wait to see their reaction to the snow

Calle is our sweetheart she can almost crawl by herself
Her laugh is so contagious, like the jolly ole elf
Christian runs all around and cleans off our shelves
To keep our house clean would take a sleigh full of elves
His friends are Elmo, his bear, Tigger and Pooh
It’s hard to believe they’re already two

So we ponder the resolutions in our head
And wonder about losing the weight we’ve said
Dad studies for school and rushes off to work
We got a free turkey such a yummy perk
As we grab another Kleenex for a sniffley nose
We are grateful for good health right down to our toes

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

What happened to June?

We've had a busy month.

We started out June with the idea that we'd "look" at vans, just so we could get a feel for what was available. Well, if you've ever started to "look" at something, you'll understand: by mid-June we'd found the van, and so we are now officially van owners. Lia wasn't sure about taking the plunge, but after having the van for a few weeks, I don't think you could pry the keys out of Lia's hands. She even takes the van when she's not taking the kids with her!

We're currently in Denver. I have a training class going on this week, and since my sister and her family live here, and Lia's sister and family live here, we decided to initiate the van into our family and made an adventure out of it. The kids are really good travelers, and with the extra room in the van, the actual drive was a breeze. Hopefully the trip back will be as good.
